Seared Ahi Tuna Steaks

Today, I’m sharing this mouthwatering recipe for Seared Ahi Tuna Steaks, a quick and delicious dinner. This recipe is actually my dad’s, and he insists that the secret to this dish is the freshest tuna. My dad chooses steaks that are usually around 1 to 1.5 inches thick and perfectly pink.

To add a burst of flavor, my Dad prepares a marinade using a combination of soy sauce, sesame oil, and a touch of honey. This marinade not only infuses the tuna with an irresistible umami taste but also helps to keep the fish moist during cooking. Before searing, makes sure to pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels. This step is crucial to achieving a golden crust on the outside while preserving the tuna’s delicate texture inside.

In a hot, well-oiled skillet, Dad sears the tuna steaks for just a couple of minutes on each side. The high heat quickly forms a delicious caramelized crust on the exterior while the center remains tender. The seared Ahi tuna steaks are usually sliced and served alongside a refreshing salad of mixed greens.

  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil

  • 1 tablespoon of honey

  • 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

  • Pat the tuna steaks dry with a paper towel. The more dry the tuna is, the better the sear.
  • In a dish or plastic bag, place tuna. Pour marinade over the tuna. Make sure the tuna is covered completely, and let marinade for 10-15 minutes.
  • Heat medium skillet to medium-high heat. The skillet must be very hot before searing the tuna. Add 1 tablespoon of canola oil to the pan. Sear tuna on each side for 1.5 – 2 minutes for medium rare to medium-well.
